Bolton Station Community Partnership will be leading a series of guided walks and guided cycle rides from the station over the summer of 2023.
Funded by Sustrans ‘Together Fund’ and supported by Transport for Greater Manchester and Northern Rail, a series of activities to help people to get active are taking place.
Guided Rides, using donated and refurbished bikes, will take place using local Sustrans routes around Bolton. These include routes along the Middlebrook Trail that runs parallel to the Bolton to Wigan / Bolton to Preston line, and former railway lines heading towards Bury and Farnworth.
If you can ride a bike but you don’t have one, you can borrow one of ours! We’re trialling the ‘bookwhen’ system on facebook for booking one of our cycles (helmet can also be provided). Please call the cycle centre for all enquiries on 07709 059572.
Funding has facilitated a bike repair workshop on Platform 5 and the provision of consumables to allow us to do Dr Bike sessions at Bolton Station and also peripheral stations in the borough of Bolton, including Horwich Parkway, Moses Gate, Westhoughton, etc. These pop-up events will be posted on our facebook page.
The Community Rail Trail between Wigan and Bolton (this is a South East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership initiative) was officially launched from the Bolton end of the route during Community Rail Network Week in May, with the launch of the route from Wigan launching in June.
A series of walks along various sections are happening throughout the year so keep an eye on our facebook page for these events.
If you want to do the walks independently, there are route links and descriptions on the SELCRP website and the routes are freely available (although you will have to sign up) on the Komoot app
